Recall of Goldfish and Ritz Crackers | McGinity | Defective Product Lawyer

There are many reasons to know a good defective product lawyer. Pepperidge Farm is voluntarily recalling more than three million packages of goldfish crackers over salmonella contamination. Mondelez International also issued a voluntary recall of 16 varieties of its Ritz cracker products because of the similar concerns over salmonella.

The FDA has been investigating, but so far there is no evidence these products are contaminated. The ingredients the companies are concerned with is the bacteria in the whey powder that is used in the seasoning. Whey is a liquid byproduct from making cheese and Greek yogurt.

The problem originates when water or a contaminate, like salmonella itself, is introduced to a factory producing the whey. This is what happened to one of the company’s ingredient suppliers that realized the whey powder may be contaminated and notified the company.

The goldfish recalled are Flavor Blasted Xtra Cheddar, Flavor Blasted Sour Cream & Onion, Gold Fish Baked with Whole Grain Xtra Cheddar and Goldfish Mix Xtra Cheddar + Pretzel. The Ritz crackers recalled range from Ritz Bits Cheese Big Bags to most kinds of Ritz cracker sandwiches.
